Overview
Housing a work crew in the UK has quietly split into two camps. On one side are managed sourcing services: you send your requirements, someone finds and manages the property, and you pay a weekly rate per person with bills folded in. On the other are marketplaces, where you deal with the host directly and the platform handles identity checks, payment and the booking record. Both camps claim to beat hotels, and both are usually right, but they ask very different things of the person doing the booking.
This guide compares one example of each, for the site manager who has to put eight welders somewhere for six weeks by Monday. The short version: a managed service trades price control for convenience, and a reverse marketplace trades convenience for price control. The rest explains what that trade costs in pounds, hours and risk.
The two models in one paragraph each
Contractors Den describes itself as a workforce housing partner rather than a booking site. According to its own FAQ page, you submit your team's location, dates, size and preferences, receive matched property options within 24 hours, and can have a team moved in "as quickly as 48–72 hours from first contact". Pricing is quoted per person per week, from "£150 to £400 per person per week, depending on the city, team size, and accommodation type", with utilities, Wi-Fi, weekly professional cleaning and council tax included. Minimum stays start at two weeks, and the site states that clients "typically save 20–30% compared to equivalent hotel stays". The trading company is Peace of Mind Property Services Ltd, and the homepage lists eight years in the sector and a Midlands-heavy footprint of Birmingham, Leicester, Coventry, Nottingham, Derby, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Redditch, Rugby, Worcester and Leeds, with other locations sourced on request.
