Overview
Sizewell C expects around 7,900 workers on site at peak, and the project's own accommodation team says roughly two thirds of them will not be living at home. The campus under construction at the site will hold 2,400 single rooms. Everyone else needs a bed somewhere within an hour of Leiston, and East Suffolk Council is paying owners to create them.
The council's Sizewell C housing grants will fund up to £7,000 per bedspace for conversions and up to £3,000 per bedroom for bringing an unused room back into use, with a further £2,500 available for energy improvements. The conditions run for five or ten years and the grant only pays out after the work is done. This guide sets out what is on offer, who qualifies, what you sign up to, and the question the council pages do not answer: how the room earns once it exists.
The three grants in plain terms
East Suffolk Council's housing grants page describes three strands of funding, all aimed at homes within a 30-minute drive of the Sizewell C site and inside the East Suffolk Council area.
